BioWisdom makes it SRS 3D Technology Available for Free
31 January 2008, Cambridge, UK - BioWisdom Ltd (BioWisdom), a leader in the provision of healthcare software and healthcare intelligence for the pharmaceutical industry, today announces the release of its SRS 3D technology as free software under the GNU General Public License version two (GPLv2).
SRS is a proven, scalable and robust data integration platform that provides fast access to diverse life sciences information including genetic, protein, expression, pathway, molecular and clinical data from public and proprietary sources, regardless of data format. SRS is the market leader for bioinformatics data integration, providing global bioinformatics platforms to pharmaceutical companies including GSK, Eli Lilly, Merck and Co, and Pfizer. SRS 3D is a module of Biowisdom's SRS system that enables the integration and display of sequences and annotations together with 3D structures. The details are available at http://www.SRS3D.org, a site hosted by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
"SRS 3D is one of the most useful and intuitive systems for presenting sequence features on 3D structures." said Dr Reinhard Schneider, Group Leader in the Structural and Computational Biology Unit at EMBL. "Making SRS 3D available free to everyone will enable the scientific community to improve how 3D-related information is communicated.
"Making SRS 3D freely available as an open source shortly after launching our OmniViz academic program is a reflection of our continued commitment to supporting the work of the academic community." said Dr Gordon Baxter, CEO of Biowisdom. "SRS users now have access to a leading tool for visualizing protein structures in SRS."

ABOUT EBI
The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton near Cambridge (UK). The EBI grew out of EMBL's pioneering work in providing public biological databases to the research community. It hosts some of the world's most important collections of biological data, including DNA sequences (EMBL-Bank), protein sequences (UniProt), animal genomes (Ensembl), three-dimensional structures (the Macromolecular Structure Database), data from microarray experiments (ArrayExpress), protein-protein interactions (IntAct) and pathway information (Reactome). The EBI hosts several research groups and its scientists continually develop new tools for the bio-computing community.
