Minimal Requirements (10-15 Users)
CPU: 2 Processors
RAM: 1 - 2 GB
Disk: Approximately 500GB to 1TB for SRS data and indices, depending on how many data sources are needed
Optimal Requirements (30-50 Users)
CPU: 4 - 8 Processors
RAM: 4 - 8 GB
Disk: Approximately 2TB to 4TB for SRS data and indices, depending on how many data sources are needed
Hardware Considerations
The processor and memory requirements are dictated by how quickly and often data needs to be indexed and by how frequently analysis tools such as BLAST will be used. Large user communities or frequent major data updates may require more processor power. For large SRS installations the use of a batch queuing system (LSF from Platform, Sun Grid Engine or similar) is recommended to distribute the compute load for indexing and analysis tools. The required disc space depends on the amount of data that is being stored. An additional 50% is needed for the SRS indices. Extra disc space should be available to anticipate the data growth for the next 12-18 months.
Browser Requirements
Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.5 and 6.0 (on Windows 2000/XP)
Firefox 1.5 or later (on Windows 2000/XP)
