Ken Olisa, Non-executive Chairman
Ken's technology career spans over 30 years, commencing with IBM where he held various posts in systems, engineering, sales and marketing, before joining Wang Laboratories in 1981. By the time he left Wang, he had held several positions, including Senior Vice President and General Manager of Europe, Africa and the Middle East at Wang.
In 1992, Ken moved on to test his entrepreneurial mettle by founding Interregnum. Ken retired from Interregnum in 2006 and now runs a boutique technology merchant bank - Restoration Partners. His current public company appointments include Directorships at Reuters and Canadian software developer - Open Text Corporation. Ken is a Fellow of the British Computer Society as well as being Chairman of Thames Reach (a charity working to shelter and resettle the homeless in London).
Gordon Baxter PhD, Chief Executive Officer
Gordon Baxter has held several senior research positions within the pharmaceutical industry, working with a variety of companies, including Glaxo, Syntex and SmithKline Beecham. He was the founding entrepreneur of Pharmagene plc and held positions as Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Non-Executive Director with the Company until its successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange in July 2000. He has a successful track record of innovation in drug discovery and has contributed to the development of several marketed drugs.
John Shackleton, Non-Executive Director
John Shackleton is President and Chief Executive Officer of Open Text Corporation, heading a $650+ million (USD) software company that has become the world's leading independent provider of enterprise content management (ECM) software. He has more than twenty-five years of software and services management experience, which includes IT, consulting, product development and sales management roles. John joined Open Text from Platinum Technologies, Inc., where he was President of the $260M Platinum Solutions division which provided consulting services to Global 2000 customers. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Professional Services for the Central U.S. and South America at Sybase, Inc. He also previously served as Vice President of Worldwide Consulting at ViewStar Corporation, a document management imaging company based in the Bay Area.
Julie Barnes PhD, Chief Scientific Officer
Julie Barnes leads the Healthcare Intelligence Services Team at BioWisdom, which is responsible for working with customer to define the business issues and carry out the detailed scientific analysis that may provide the answers. Julie has 15 years experience in Pharmaceutical R&D, mostly at GlaxoSmithKline. Her experience spans both pre-clinical and early clinical activities, with a particular specialization in central nervous system (CNS) target discovery. In addition to leading and managing multidisciplinary drug discovery project teams, Julie has headed departments in CNS research and has led initiatives to assist in the definition of broad therapeutic strategy and prioritization for the CNS therapeutic area. Julie is trained in pharmacology and behavioural neuroscience.
Susan Lowther FCMA, Chief Financial Officer
Susan is responsible for the financial management of the Company, including its strategic planning activities. Susan has held senior financial management roles within the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors for the last eighteen years, most recently as Finance Director of RiboTargets Holdings plc where she was part of the Executive team which built the company from its spin out from the MRC in Cambridge in 1997 until its successful merger with British Biotech plc (now Vernalis) in 2003. Prior to her position at RiboTargets, Susan gained extensive experience in senior management positions at Lonza Biologics, Celltech Group plc and GD Searle.
Michael Stapleton PhD, Chief Business Officer
Dr. Stapleton has more than 20 years experience in the field of scientific software and informatics. He was most recently Vice President of Global Marketing and eBusiness at Invitrogen (Nasdaq: IVGN) responsible for the industry-leading web, bioinformatics and eCommerce activities. Prior to Invitrogen, Dr. Stapleton spent 11 years at Accelrys (Nasdaq: ACCL). In particular, as Chief Operating Officer, he was responsible for launching Accelrys in 2001 as a result of the integration of Molecular Simulations, Synopsys, Oxford Molecular Group and Genetics Computer Group. Dr. Stapleton has a Ph.D. in chemistry and has undertaken research at Cornell University and British Petroleum.
John Gonzalez MB. Non-executive Investor Director
John Gonzalez studied medicine in England and spent five years as a physician before moving to a Californian start up developing software for medical applications. Subsequently he earned an MBA and went to work for SmithKline Beecham. Before joining Alice Ventures he was responsible for commercial development in European markets for PowderJect Pharmaceuticals, a new generation life sciences company specialized in drug delivery. John looks mainly after life sciences investments. He is also on the board of Arakis, Adprotec, Onyvax and Pantherix.
Andrew Richards PhD, Non-executive Director
Andy Richards is a serial biotechnology entrepreneur and business angel. He is currently a director of Vectura plc, Biowisdom, Daniolabs, Theradeas, Cancer Research Technology Ltd (commercial arm of CR-UK), Babraham Bioscience Technology Ltd and is Chairman of Geneservice. He was a founder of Chiroscience in 1992 and an executive director through to the merger with Celltech in August 1999. Since that time he has been founding and investing in new biotechnology companies including several of those listed above as well as Arakis, Cambridge Biotechnology Ltd, Amedis Pharmaceuticals and Sirus Pharmaceuticals all of which were recently sold. Prior to founding Chiroscience he was at ICI (now Zeneca) and PA Consulting. He is a Cambridge graduate with a PhD in Enzyme Chemistry. He is a founder member of the Cambridge Angels, a founder investor in LibraryHouse, a member of the Council of UEA and a director of the Bioindustry Association (BIA)
Chris Hodkinson, Chief Operating Officer
Chris leads the Information Sciences and Life Sciences teams at BioWisdom and is responsible for Operations and Quality Assurance. He has 20 years experience of Project and Quality Management, working in with a variety of commercial organisations in the Software and Pharmaceutical industries, including ICL, Camelot and GlaxoSmithKline. Prior to joining BioWisdom, Chris was consulting on Software Process Improvement and Computer Systems Validation. Chris was also Head of Projects and Quality at Camelot, Head of Planning and Quality at GSK and a Corporate Quality Consultant at ICL
